our story
tuscan terroir | thoughtful winemaking | lifelong friendships
Our story is simple - La Caccia is inspired by an amazing piece of land in a part of Tuscany that has largely remained untouched for 1200 years. Dean Macfarlan, having been involved in the renovation of the neighboring Castello di Casole, fell in love with the surrounding Tuscan hills, culture and people. In 2016, he saw an opportunity to plant the vineyards of what would become La Caccia. The soil on the estate is incredibly unique and composed of clay, limestone, sand and granite - perfect components to create wines of greatness.
For our 2018 vintage and beyond, Dean partnered with Michael Kennedy and Marc Gagnon who now oversee all winemaking and vineyard operations. Together Dean, Michael and Marc want to express this site uniquely and purely to produce an authentic, organic wine reflective of the incredible land that surrounds it.
About Marc Gagnon & Michael Kennedy
Marc & Michael are no strangers to working with historic properties. In fact, in Napa Valley the older the vineyard, the more enticing it becomes - as a part of Gagnon-Kennedy Vineyards, their Historic Napa Valley Vineyard winery. Although the vineyards at La Caccia are new, the combination of the estate’s exceptional soil and extensive overall history formed a quick “yes” from Michael & Marc when Dean asked if they would come on as partners in the estate.
