About The Estate

54 Hectares of Rolling Hills | Certified Organic | 8 Hectares of Vineyards

In 2005 Dean Macfarlan had the opportunity to be involved in the restoration and renovation of the Castello di Casole a castle originally built in the 900s that served as a place for exiles from surrounding city states. Surrounding this castle was 1700 hectares (4200 acres) of land that throughout the centuries has served mostly as farm land and hunting grounds. In the 1800s this was divided up into 31 farms - which brings us to the estate today, which was one of those 31 farms. A 54 hectare (133 acre) estate with 8 hectares (20 acres) dedicated to organic vineyards and olive groves. Out of the 1700 hectares surrounding Castello di Casole this is the parcel that stood out the most. A combination of the unique soil composition, terroir and the surrounding views drew us to it.

La Caccia translates to “the hunt” in Italian and is another nod to the estate’s history. The hunting blind on the bottle is a drawing of the one situated on the estate that was used to hunt wild boars in the 1800s and early 1900s. Our vineyards neighbor a certified Model Game Preserve of the Castello di Casole and as a result we too, see the native wildlife of these Tuscan hills.

In 2017, the entire estate was converted to organic production, from the vines to the olive orchard to even the lavender and rosemary throughout the property. We have loved seeing how this change has brought abundant life back to the site -  wildlife, insects and forest.

Working this land is a true joy and we feel so lucky to be making wine and olive oil to bring from our estate to you.
