2020 toscana Rosso

50 % Cabernet Sauvignon | 50% Sangiovese

An incredibly elegant wine from the estate. In 2020, the vineyard was dry for most of the year and rained somewhat soon before harvest, lessening the intense concentration and adding a bit of softness. The wine was vinified classically, and the oak treatment was quite dialed in after learning from the past vintages. From 2017 until now, this is by far the most elegant and expressive of the wines from La Caccia. Enjoy now through 2050.

Tech Sheets

  • This 2017 Vintage has notes of red fruit followed by the dark & brooding characteristics common for Petit Verdot. *Library Wine

  • In our 2018 Vintage notes of raspberry, strawberry, cassis and cherry, alongside a symphony of spice and herbs - truly tuscan in nature.

  • The 2019 Vintage is aromatically bursting with blue & red fruits, followed by rosemary and time.

  • This is by far the most elegant and expressive of the wines from La Caccia. The vineyard was dry for most of the year and rained somewhat soon before harvest, lessening the intense concentration and adding a bit of softness.

About Our Olive Grove

  • The Estate originally had a small half hectare grove of 138 20+ year old orchard trees.

  • In 2018 we expanded our Olive Grove by 4.5 hectares planting over 1,250 additional olive trees. These yielded fruit quickly expanding our olive oil volume by 4 times.

- A Look into Our Cellar -

A note from Marc Gagnon about our winemaking process…

“At La Caccia, we first keep original and new plantings separate - from there we further separate the old vine Sangiovese from the Cabernet in case a Reserve barrel can be selected. Fermentation temperatures are lower and maceration is more gentle than our new world projects, and closer to a Bordeaux style. This is in order to maintain an elegance and refinement to the tannins, as the dry farmed sandy soils can lend a firmness and austerity if handled too tough. Elevage is approximately 50% new oak, all French, for 18-22 months. Finally barrel selection is made at the end to only take the cream off the top.” -Marc Gagnon, Winemaker
